Civil Rights Poetry and Beyond
As a Language arts teacher, I use a deep exploration of the American Civil Rights Movement as a spring board for poetry, "I believe" essays and community service. Recognizing and celebrating all voices of our history is important and allowing students to recognize and celebrate diversity in our class and the world creates greater understanding and empathy.
I led seven students on a trip through the deep south to study the Civil Rights Movement on the ground and in the spirit of the Freedom Riders. Below is a slideshow of pictures and slides from that trip.
